WHO WE ARE

WHO WE ARE

Bharathan Medical Foundation is a registered non-profit charitable trust founded in 2022 with the aim of helping patients with kidney failure, a special focus on helping youngsters. The primary objective of BMF is to provide financial assistance to underprivileged patients undergoing kidney transplants and subsidise dialysis treatment and medication for kidney failure/end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients.

We further aim to organise awareness programmes amongst the general public on organ donation and bust the myths associated with it. More than 5 lakh Indians die every year due to organ failure. As per the World Health Organisation, only 0.01% of Indians donate organs whereas in the Western world over 70% pledge their organs for donation. We aim to create awareness so that more people come forward and sign up for organ donation. An increase in organ donation will ensure that more organ failure patients have a chance of getting back to a better life.

There has been a sharp increase in kidney and liver failures in India due to poor discipline when it comes to diet, exercise and high stress levels.  BMF is working towards educational awareness programmes on prevention of kidney and liver diseases and the need to take care of these vital organs through lifestyle changes before it is too late.

We are working towards creating a support group for kidney failure patients and their families. The mental health of the patient and his/ her family is seriously affected due to organ failure. A support group with others facing the same challenges will bring much needed reprieve. It will help them share their worries, woes and challenges with empathetic peers undergoing the same issues. We also plan to have a qualified medical counsellor who will provide  individual and group counselling to patients and their family members.

At the Bharathan Medical Foundation, our mission is to provide kidney failure patients with the necessary care and support they need to cope with their condition. We offer assistance to help the patients and their families lead as normal a life as possible.
